29 06 2007

Donning a white baseball hat and warmup suit — complete with an iPod strapped to his arm — a casual Philadelphia Mayor John StreetStreet said he was No. 3 in a line of about six people, but said he was sure things would pick up later in the day.”I’m out here with the rest of the gang, and we’re all waiting for the iPhone,” said Street, a self-proclaimed technology advocate. “This is the latest and I’m going to have it.”Street said he waited for most of the overnight storms to clear before securing his spot at about 3:30 a.m., noting that the two people in front of him were so sleepy they didn’t even recognize him.NBC 10 producers also camped out to try to get their hands on an iPhone. To read about their experience camped out by a Dumpster, click here. The combination cell phone, iPod and web browser comes in two models, costing $499 to $599 apiece. Then, you have to take out a two-year AT&T service contract costing $60 to $100 a month. They go on sale at 6 p.m. only at Apple and AT&T stores on a first-come, first-served basis. Apple expects to sell 10 million iPhones by next year and has put a tool on its Web site that will let customers know if a store has iPhones available. Online sales start at 6 p.m. PDT.

29 06 2007

So June 29th, also termed as iDay is finally upon us. For all the Apple fanboys/girls and rest of the nerds, today is the day you can finally purhase the Apple iPhone at 6:00 PM. The lines outside of Apple and AT&T stores started to form late Wednesday afternoon, and continuously grew from there on. The iPhones launch is being deemed as the most anticipated consumer electronics launch ever! I’m leaving work at 4:00 PM today, and am going to hit up the local AT&T store and see if I can snag a iPhone hopefully.

With that said, I bring you pictures from across the US of the various lines that have formed:

iPhone

27 06 2007

Finally…the long-awaited Apple iPhone is about to make its debut @ an Apple or AT&T store near you on Friday at 6:00PM. This phone functions as a full iPod, runs a version of OS X, can push e-mail via Yahoo Mail, has a 2-megapixel camera, and a wide, 3.5-inch display with higher resolution than any current iPod. The iPhone will be available in 4GB and 8GB configurations for $499 and $599, respectively, and will be carried by AT&T/Cingular starting at 6 p.m. on June 29, 2007. Service plans will start at $60 per month for 450 minutes of talk time and unlimited data.

Did I also mention that it only has one single button on the device! The device has a nifty touchscreen GUI to perform all of its functions. I would love to get one, but my lazy ass cant skip work for two days and get in line starting tomorrow to be one of the first ones to get this device. So alas…guess I’ll just have to wait for one.

So how many of you out there are getting in line starting tonight/tomorrow to pick up your own iPhone?

Transformers

27 06 2007

In 1984, Transformers the cartoon debuted for the first time on TV here in America. I was 8 years old at the time, and totally into action figures. I had an assortment of GI Joe’s, had Voltron the lion version, and a bunch of GoBots – (Leader-1 – he was the jet and lead the Guardians and the Porsche one…forgot who he was). But after watching Transformers for the first time on TV…I was hooked! This cartoon immediately went onto top of my list of cartoons I must watch! The other top two cartoons were GI Joe and Voltron for me. Although I also loved watching the Gummi Bears every Saturday morning as well along with the Smurfs.

Anyways…back to the Transformers. When you watch the cartoon now, it looks pretty blah, and the voice overs make you crack up. But back in the day…these cartoons were incredible. I remember the Christmas of ‘84…all I wanted my parents to get for me were a bunch of Transformers. And indeed, I got some. Optimus Prime and Bumble Bee were my first Transformers toys. But this was just the beginning. Megatron followed suit, along with Starscream and Shockwave. Shockwave was actually cool, because he actually functioned as a cassette player. My favorite Transformers were the Dinobots. They were bad ass and did whatever they felt like based on their mood. They were also awesome fighters.

I’m definitely excited about the movie releasing in theaters next week and can’t wait to see it. This movie has a huge nostalgia effect on me, and brings back many memories of my childhood. On that note, I present you with Transformers the cartoon – Episode 1:

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows

26 06 2007

So…have you ordered your copy of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows yet? No? Well then, you are in luck. You can pre-order your copy of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows through http://harrypotterthedeathlyhallows.net/. Why should you order your book through this site? There are many reasons…first and foremost to get your hands on the last book in the awesome Harry Potter series. Second the site is trying to raise $1 million dollars for charity. The two charities that the money is being raised for are Save the children and the Global Literacy project. The third reason is that you could possibly win $500 for yourself if you write a great ending for the series or if your ending is the most accurate for the actual ending.

Well if you don’t care about charity, just buy it from Amazon – clickity click. Amazon’s giving away a $5.00 GC with purchase..so the book will only be about $12.99 ($17.99 – $5.00)

I have read all 6 of the Harry Potter books that are in print right now. I have also seen each movie as it came out in the theaters and own them on DVD as well. I enjoy Harry Potter a lot and am really sad to see the series ending but at the same time I am excited to find out what happens. I predict that Neville LongBottom will have a major role in this last book. I think that Dumbledore is not actually dead (like the wizard from LOTR) and that either Ron or Hermione will end up dying. It could be Harry that dies but I am not sure. There are so many possibilities to the ending of this series that it is so hard to speculate. If you are better at speculating the ending then I am, then comment below and leave your thoughts.

Sony Playstation 3

26 06 2007

So after much debate and research on what console to get…Xbox 360 vs. PS3, I wound up picking up a PS3 last week. My cousin has had one for a few months now, and was able to convince me to pick one up as well. The process began with me walking into my local EB store and asking the guy to grab me a PS3, an extra controller, and 2 games: Motorstorm and Pirates of the Caribbean – Dead Man’s Chest. $816.00 later, I arrive home and anxiously start setting up my PS3. I had an extra HDMI cable, so saved some money there. But in order to hook the PS3 up to my surround sound system, I needed to purchase an optical audio cable ($30.00 more dollars). So with $850.00 being spent on this “next-gen” gaming machine, I finally turned the thing on, spent 15-20 mins going through the setup and finally got the 1st glimpse at Motorstorm. I was floored! The graphics looked amazing and the sound was crisp and clear. Yea it also has some flaws (lack of good games currently, no force feedback in the controller) but all in all, a good investment in my opinion. Did I tell you that Blu-ray looks amazing! I watched Blood Diamond and Black Hawk Down in Blu-ray and they looked kick ass!

So all in all, I’m very pleased with PS3 so far. I am able to wirelessly stream audio and video from PC onto my PS3, as well as view photos and slideshows. The online game play is fun as well. Now just looking forward to some good PS3 game releases to come out!

Summer Blockbuster Movies – What Will You Be Watching?

26 06 2007

So we’re midway into the summer movie season with three of the six big blockbusters having already been released. Funny that all three of these happen to be trilogy’s – Spiderman 3, Shrek 3, and Pirates of the Caribbean 3. The ones yet to be released are Transformers, Harry Potter and Simpsons the Movie.

I checked out Pirates and Spiderman, but didn’t get a chance to see Shrek yet but my sister did and she said it was “BLAH”. I enjoyed watching Pirates, although it was a bit long, and Spidey was just ok. The movies that i think will be the pure big hits this season are Harry Potter and Transformers. I know I’m definitely excited about Transformers!

What about you?? What have you seen already this summer and what will you be watching this summer?
